My local hill, Pendle Hill is famous for its connection with the Pendle Witches. This wonderful whale-shaped hill is a major landmark, and though only 1800 ft or so high, offers some brisk uphill walking. The start is the car park at Barley where there is an  cafe and toilets. From the car park turn right  into the village of Barley  then following the road, go out of the village up the hill until you reach a cattle grid and signpost to Pendle.  Follow the paved road and signs until you reach the stile leading up the hill. The path steepens to climb diagonally across the slope. The path is paved in sections and despite the angle you will soon have completed most of the ascent and reached a wall. Do not cross the wall but turn round and head across the relatively flat summit area to the trig point located about 400 metres to the south. If you are tired- or if there is any mist at all you should do as I usually do, and return briskly down the hill. However, On a fine day there are excellent views across Lancashire and into the Yorkshire Dales and you can leave the summit on the clear path south that follows the edge, which is on your left hand side. You will reach the point where a path descends left. Ignore this to continue across the moor losing height as you descend to a stile. Cross the stile and descend east crossing a grassy area to reach a track. Turn right down the track and descend to the base of the dam wall of Upper Ogden Reservoir. You can climb to the dam to enjoy the view of this beautifully located expanse of water with wild moorland on all sides. Return to the base of the dam wall and take the clear track east to pass alongside Lower Ogden Reservoir. This lane leads without any problems to bring you back to the start.

i've done the walk myself, you've got to be fit and there are two ways to get to the summit. Personally I took the most challenging and chose the steps, shorter but really hard work on your knees. Fantastic views i'm planning to do the same a day after halloween, hopefully around 2am. Looking forward to the challengeand you never know I might meet a wiches or two.
