This walk ambles a little up the Dales way, along the River Wharfe. Park in the Car Park within the Bolton Abbey grounds. From the Car Park walk up to the river and walk along the bank to reach a wooden bridge – cross this and turn left along the footpath heading upstream. The path takes you through old English woodland (best seen in Spring and Autumn) – it is a protected woodland, and good for native plants and animals. About half way to Barden Bridge the Wharfe has to pass through a six foot wide gap through rock. This is  called the Strid. Even during times of  low water flow it is a pretty impressive sight and after heavy rain  take care in case of any quick changes in water level. Continue through the wood you will reach an arched stone bridge and join the Dales Way. The path now crosses broad fields with wonderful dales views. Barden Bridge is the next landmark where the path leads up to a public road. Turn left, and cross the bridge  and turn left again to take the path back downstream on the other bank. By the time you get back to the Strid you have around a mile back to the start
